Angels’ win over White Sox sets painful MLB record not seen in 70 years

The Los Angeles Angels moved to 15-23 with a win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. During the matchup, both sides manage to make MLB history.

On three different occasions, a batter was hit with the bases loaded. That hasn’t happened in MLB over the last 70 seasons at least, via Sarah Langs of MLB.

By the second inning, the Angels had already taken a 5-1 lead. But in the fourth, Jorge Soler became the first batter hit with the bases loaded. Jo Adell got the same treatment one batter later, as his HBP extended Los Angeles lead’ to 7-1.

White Sox left fielder Sam Antonacci became the third player hit by a pitch. Although, the one run that came into score wasn’t nearly enough. Still, their Wednesday matchup will go down in the history books as one of the more peculiar in MLB history.

While they’re hoping it won’t come down to hit by pitchers, both the Angels and White Sox will be fighting for every win they can get in 2026. Los Angeles has been led by Mike Trout’s resurgence, although their roster tells the whole story. Chicago has plenty of intriguing prospects on their roster and can’t-miss rookie Munetaka Murakami consistently going yard. But they are just 17-20 on the season as well.

With the victory, the Angels ended up taking two of three from the White Sox. It’s their first series win since taking on the Cincinnati Reds from April 10-12. As for Chicago, they entered the series having won five of their last six games. Los Angeles will look to build off of their momentum while the South Siders will try to re-find theirs.

Both sides may look to not pitch inside as often.
