Angel Reese already loving Dream after game-saving block in debut

The Atlanta Dream must be thrilled to have Angel Reese on the team. Atlanta acquired Reese from Chicago just one month before the start of the 2026 WNBA regular season. The Dream are already reaping rewards from that trade as Reese balled out during the team’s season opener, including one play that sealed their win.

Atlanta defeated Minnesota 91-90 in their season opener. It was a narrow victory as the Dream took their first lead of the game with just 12 second left. Reese played a big part, scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds. She also made a game-saving block in the final seconds to preserve the one-point win.

Reese posted a heartfelt message on social media after the victory. Her Instagram story included a highlight of the final sequence of Saturday’s game, concluding with her game-sealing block. She captioned it “I love this team.”

Reese now has 50 career double-doubles in just 65 games. She is the fastest player in WNBA history to reach that mark in her career, per the Associated Press.

But Angel was not the only star on the court on Saturday night.

Allisha Gray led the way for Atlanta, scoring 24 points against the Lynx. She delivered some clutch shots during the second half, scoring 16 of her 24 points in the final 20 minutes.

Gray and Reese led the Dream on an 18-4 run during the third quarter to get back into the game after a slow start. Atlanta outscored Minnesota 54-38 during the second half.

The Lynx did not have superstar Napheesa Collier, who had offseason surgery on both her ankles. It is uncertain if she will return before both teams face each other again on May 27th.

Next up for the Dream is a road game against the Wings on Tuesday May 12th at 8PM ET.
