The Carolina Hurricanes have won Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals in overtime. Who scored the goal was initially unclear. But it has since been awarded to Andrei Svechnikov, who has given the Canes a 2-1 series lead in the East Final over the Montreal Canadiens.

The East Final has been a rather close affair after a lopsided Game 1 Canadiens win. In fact, each of the last two games in this series has gone to overtime. Both games have gone the way of the Hurricanes. Svechnikov spoke about his team’s latest victory in an interview with Sportsnet following Monday’s win.

“Good feelings. It was one of the hardest games we played. Good thing we won that game. I think it was a lot to fight for. Like I said, good thing we won that game,” the Carolina star said on Monday night.

The Hurricanes have historically struggled to win in the East Final. They entered this series with a record of 1-16 in the East Final since 2009. However, they have now doubled that win total. And this is the first East Final with more than a single win for Carolina since they won the Stanley Cup in 2006.

“We’re very confident in the group we’ve got here. Everyone knows what kind of role they got. And (goalie Frederik Andersen) is playing amazing. So we just gotta continue doing that, and stick with our plan for the games,” Svechnikov continued, via Sportsnet.

The Hurricanes are two wins away from the Stanley Cup Final. They can take a commanding 3-1 series lead on Wednesday night when Carolina returns to the ice against the Canadiens for Game 4.
