A.J. Brown sets record straight on alleged Jalen Hurts beef after Patriots trade

The Philadelphia Eagles finally made the trade that fans have been waiting on for months. Philadelphia sent wide receiver A.J. Brown to New England in exchange for a 2028 first-round pick. Now that Brown is no longer with the Eagles, he is seemingly more comfortable talking about one hot-button issue.

Brown spoke honestly about his relationship with Eagles QB Jalen Hurts during a recent interview.

“[We’re] not as close as we once were,” Brown told Maria Taylor on 7PM in Brooklyn. “That’s fine, there’s no bad blood. There’s actually still a lot of love, I love him. I want him to succeed and accomplish all of the things he wants to accomplish.”

The relationship between Brown and Hurts was a major storyline of the 2025 season. That deteriorating relationship, paired with Brown not always being a priority on offense, seemingly led to Brown being traded.

Brown admitted that he was confused about why his relationship with Hurts was such a hot topic in the media.

“I didn’t truly understand why our friendship became the center of everyone’s attention when it came to football because, looking back on it, we haven’t been as close as we were a couple of years now. But that didn’t stop anything,” Brown added. “We still competed, we still pushed each other, we still led the team. It’s kind of strange, people just got so fixated on our relationship.”

Ultimately, Brown claimed that there was not one moment when their friendship fell apart. Instead, they simply drifted apart over time.

“Nothing happened,” Brown concluded. “People just grow apart.”

Now both Brown and Hurts have to move on and figure out how to succeed without the other in 2026.
