The story of Johnny Kilroy began in 1993-94 with a Nike marketing campaign during Michael Jordan’s first retirement from the game of basketball. Centered around the Air Jordan 9 and enlisting the help of legendary comedian Steve Martin, “Kilroy” was one of the many alter egos of Michael Jordan that had never retired and continue to play in the league under new aliases.
The most famous colorway of the Jordan 9 is actually titled “Kilroy” after the red/black/silver counter colors of the typical Bulls-themed Air Jordan sneakers. After all these years, the marketing campaign has allowed for this upcoming “What the Kilroy” colorway in 2026.

The thematic sneaker will feature a Multi-Color/Multi-Color mash-up concept, combining all the Jordan 9 colorways from the Kilroy series into one Air Jordan 9 Low silhouette. The shoes feature color blocked panels throughout as no two panels or aspects are the same. Laces appear mismatched in white and black while the inside tongue reads “Kilroy Kicks Butt.”
Some interesting details will include Jordan’s typical No. 23 and Kilroy’s No. 4 stitched onto the back heel. The tongue of each shoe will feature three stitched name plate tags indicating each one of Michael Jordan’s aliases. Everything down to the solid outsoles will be mismatched, making for an interesting yet cohesive pair for the fall season.
The Air Jordan 9 Low “What the Kilroy” is still awaiting an official release date, but several sources are pointing towards Fall 2026. The shoes will come with a standard $180 retail tag and will likely be available in full sizing, dropping through Nike SNKRS app and select Nike retailers.
