Adam Silver drops ‘hopeful’ Kawhi Leonard update amid Raptors-Clippers trade holdup
The Kawhi Leonard trade remains in limbo amid an ongoing NBA investigation of the Aspiration scandal. But NBA commissioner Adam Silver is “hopeful” that the saga will get resolved sooner rather than later.
“We all have an interest in wrapping this up. I recently said I’m hopeful it will wrap up this summer. The league did not pause the trade. The parties of the trade decided not to go forward due to the ongoing investigation… The investigation needs to run its course,” Silver said, via NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
The Los Angeles Clippers traded Leonard to the Raptors in June in exchange for a package that featured Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick. That trade is currently on hold, however, with the Raptors deciding to let the investigation conclude before proceeding with the transaction.
The investigation has made dealing with anything concerning Leonard more complicated. There is reportedly even another NBA sponsorship being investigated.
This saga began when Pablo Torre of Pablo Torre Finds Out reported allegations of NBA salary cap circumvention involving Aspiration and the Clippers. The team has since denied it, but the result of the investigation should reveal more about it.
Amid this ongoing Aspiration drama and the trade holdup between the Raptors and the Clippers, Kawhi Leonard appeared to be unbothered by it when he showed up at a recent Raptors NBA Summer League game at Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas against the Indiana Pacers.
The 35-year-old Leonard won an NBA title in 2019 with the Raptors before signing with the Clippers in the following offseason.
