4-star WR commits to BYU over Ohio State, Oregon, Utah

BYU football aims to catapult Texas Tech atop the Big 12 in 2026. But claiming the conference championship starts with collecting College Football Recruiting wins. And the Cougars answered that in a huge way Saturday: Beating Ohio State, Oregon and Utah for a major four-star target.

Wide receiver Blake Wong handed the Cougars a massive win on the trail in choosing BYU. Wong originally trended toward landing with Oregon per On3/Rivals and 247Sports. However, head coach Kalani Sitake and his coaching staff pulled enough strings to win over Wong.

Turns out BYU’s biggest sales pitch involved a recent Cougars great now thriving in the NFL: Puka Nacua of the Los Angeles Rams.

“They said they wanted to use me the same way they used Puka (Nacua) going from slot to wide out and work all around,” Wong told Adam Gorney of On3/Rivals. “I even go in the backfield and move me around every single spot.”

Nacua established himself as a star in Provo before emerging as the top weapon for head coach Sean McVay’s Rams offense. Wong will hear the stirring comparisons now that he’s committed to BYU.

The Cougars established themselves as a major force in the Big 12 since 2023. BYU shed a 5-7 debut in season one before going a combined 23-4 overall, including winning 15 of 18 games in Big 12 play.

But the Red Raiders embarrassed the Cougars not once, but twice during the season. Especially with the Big 12 title on the line. BYU settled for the Pop Tarts Bowl in the aftermath. Recruits like Wong are capable of sending the Cougars to the top of the conference, and earn a spot in the College Football Playoffs.
