4 Spurs who made a statement in Game 4 comeback vs. Blazers

The San Antonio Spurs hit NBA Playoffs history by coming back over the Portland Trail Blazers Sunday. The likes of Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox and company erased a 17-point deficit this time.

And pulled it off after being down by 15 during their Game 3 win in the previous contest.

San Antonio puts Portland’s back against the wall now. Mitch Johnson is on the brink of winning his first postseason series as a head coach.

Johnson needed these four, though, to pull off the 114-93 trouncing.

Victor Wembanyama, Center

Wembanyama shook off the cobwebs of his Game 2 concussion right away. The 7-foot-5 star looked like he didn’t need to jump for one block either:

And that two-handed swat became one of seven for the day on Wemby’s end. He wasn’t just a force on the defensive side either.

Wembanyama dropped 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his latest double-double. He put the Blazers in a spin cycle early too:

But he executed his best highlight on this thunderous tomahawk slam.

Wemby even hit Hakeem Olajuwon territory with his final stat line, although his came with a 3-pointer.

De’Aaron Fox, Guard

Wemby rose to double-double status, but Fox led the scoring charge.

He delivered 28 on Portland through 39 minutes including burying four from the perimeter. Fox especially took over during the fourth:

The former Sacramento Kings star ignites the outside scoring. He’s taken the scoring pressure off Wemby as both aim to launch a new championship run for the five-time NBA Finals champs.

Stephon Castle, Guard

Castle handed Spurs fans a brief scare by suffering a brief hand injury.

But he shook off the left handed ailment to produce 16 points. San Antonio appreciated him more as a facilitator, though, in distributing eight assists.

Castle engaged in one heated moment with Deni Avdija, though, leading into technical fouls for both. But he’s averaging 21 points per game during this series.

Devin Vassell, Forward

Vassell showed nothing fancy on the floor. But handed the Spurs 11 points in becoming the fourth to reach double figures in scoring.

He hit Portland with this wicked pump fake too while on his way to finish the dunk.

Wemby himself praised the way the forward finished his plays on the day. Vassell is one more who’s surpassed more than 10 points in every game of this series, averaging 13.25 through the four games.

He’s a big rebounding presence too in grabbing seven per contest for San Antonio.
