3 teams combine for ultra-rare WNBA phenomenon

The WNBA featured a triple-header on Monday, with the Minnesota Lynx battling the Portland Fire, the Dallas Wings taking on the Las Vegas Aces, and the Golden State Valkyries clashing with the Los Angeles Sparks.

The Lynx, the Wings, and the Valkyries took care of business in lopsided fashion, winning by 33, 30, and 20 points, respectively.

According to ESPN Insights, it was the first time since September 1, 2017 that three teams won by at least 20 points in a single day.

The last time it happened, the Sparks beat the Atlanta Dream by 25 points, the Lynx defeated the Chicago Sky by 23 points, and the Phoenix Mercury blasted the Connecticut Sun by 20 points.

On Monday, the Lynx notched their ninth win in 10 outings, with seven players scoring in double digits, led by Natasha Howard with 18 points. Nia Coffey tallied 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and three blocks.

They improved to 11-3 to lead the team standings even without Napheesa Collier, who is still recovering from an ankle injury.

The Wings defeated the Aces for the second time this season, improving to 9-5. Arike Ogunbowale had 22 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. Azzi Fudd added 19 points on 8-of-9 field goals, while Piage Bueckers chipped in 10 points, five rebounds, and seven assists in just 24 minutes.

The Valkyries, who are in their second year in the WNBA, notched their third straight victory and tied the Wings at 9-5. Gabby Williams led the scoring with 16 points on top of four rebounds. Kaila Charles stepped up off the bench with 13 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
