The Colorado Avalanche are in trouble after losing Game 3 and now face a 3-0 deficit in the Western Conference Finals against the Vegas Golden Knights. Cale Makar

Makar did not look like himself in Game 3. Yes, he was skating around and preventing easy breaks. But it just was not enough. Makar finished with three shots on goal and six blocked shots. So far, there are no signs of the injury he had resurfacing. Makar must find his game quickly, and he has the talent to do it. When he sat out the first two games, there was plenty of speculation about how severe it was. Regardless, he can make an impact.

Avalanche defense clamps down

When the Golden Knights began their comeback, the Avalanche’s defense collapsed and was unable to stop them. Initially, the penalty kill failed to prevent Mark Stone from converting a power-play goal. But things got worse for the Avs when they allowed William Karlsson to cut the deficit to 3-2. After failing on a power play, the Avs allowed Keegan Kolesar to skate past numerous defenders and tie the game up. This defense has stuffed teams before, but that was not the case against Vegas.

Nathan MacKinnon carries the Avalanche

Nathan MacKinnon exited with a knee injury after taking a puck to the net. It affected him for the rest of the game. However, MacKinnon might play in Game 4 and will need to perform significantly better to give the Avs any hope.
