2027 TE picks South Carolina over UCLA, LSU, Ohio State
South Carolina football continued strengthening its 2027 recruiting class on Friday, with a commitment from three-star tight end Judah Lancaster, who chose the Gamecocks over multiple Power Four programs, including UCLA, Auburn, Arizona, Vanderbilt, Missouri, and Maryland.
Lancaster, a Brentwood Academy (Tennessee) product, stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs between 231 and 240 pounds depending on recruiting evaluation services. According to 247Sports Composite Rankings, he is a Top-800 national prospect and the No. 41 tight end in his class, while Rivals Industry Ranking places him at No. 32 among tight ends and No. 636 overall.
Originally from Ohio, Lancaster lived there for 12 years before moving to Arizona, where his football development accelerated. He later spent two seasons at IMG Academy in Florida after beginning high school football as a freshman in Arizona.
His recruitment included an official visit to South Carolina during a weekend where he was one of 11 prospects on campus. He had previously visited during spring practice in March, and his commitment had been forming since April 19. Tight ends coach and running game coordinator Shawn Elliott was directly involved in his recruitment, alongside head coach Shane Beamer.
Lancaster will join the Gamecocks in January. His commitment helped continue a busy run for the program, as he became the sixth pledge in the 2027 class and the fourth commitment within the week. He also joined wide receiver DJ Huggins as one of two pass-catchers in the class.
South Carolina’s 2027 class now includes six commitments: four-star safety Jernard Albright, three-star quarterback Jerry Meyer III, offensive lineman Will Endicott, four-star defensive lineman John Archer, wide receiver DJ Huggins, and tight end Judah Lancaster.
