Yankees option pitcher after brutal 6-1 loss to Rangers
The New York Yankees optioned right-hander Yerry de los Santos back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Wednesday night’s 6-1 loss to the Texas Rangers at Yankee Stadium. De los Santos pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out five in the loss to Texas. The club announced the move on X, formerly Twitter, shortly after the game ended.
“Following tonight’s game, the Yankees optioned RHP Yerry de los Santos to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.”

De los Santos’ relief appearance helped stabilize the game after Will Warren endured his roughest outing of the 2026 season. The Yankees starter allowed six earned runs on seven hits across four innings as the Rangers snapped New York’s five-game winning streak.
The Yankees managed to get only three hits against Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, who was lights-out across eight innings of work while also recording eight strikeouts. Aaron Judge provided the lone bright spot at the plate, blasting his MLB-leading 15th home run of the season in the top of the sixth frame.
New York had recalled the journeyman reliever prior to Wednesday’s game after optioning Elmer Rodriguez, using the 28-year-old as temporary bullpen depth during a stretch of rotation adjustments. His immediate return to Triple-A reflects standard roster management rather than a performance-based decision after his scoreless outing.
With the loss, the Pinstripes dropped to 25-12 but remain in first place in the AL East, though their lead was trimmed to a half-game over the surging Tampa Bay Rays, who are 12-3 over their last 15 games.
The Yankees will look to bounce back in Thursday’s series finale vs. the Rangers while trying to maintain their slim lead atop the AL East as the division race begins to tighten.
