Yankees’ Cam Schlittler gives NSFW reaction to Blue Jays’ hitting approach

The New York Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 on Wednesday night after a lengthy rain delay. But the 9:10 p.m. start did not stop either of the two starting pitchers. Yankees young star Cam Schlittler and Blue Jays ace Trey Yesavage were both incredible through six innings. Schlittler details what happened in the seventh inning, which ended up costing the Bombers the game.

“It’s just unacceptable, you know? Just walked two guys, they’re a team that’s going to BABIP the s*** out of you. Some unlucky stuff, but can’t walk the bottom of the order. Just unfortunate I could not close that one out,” Schlittler said, per SNY.

The Blue Jays made the World Series last year with their contact-first approach, and they utilized it again on Wednesday. They are 22nd in Batting Average on Balls in Play (BABIP) this year, but finished eighth last year. This is the stat Toronto is looking to improve as they look to climb back to .500.

Schlittler allowed six hits through six innings, but no walks and no runs. The Yankees had not scored on Yesavage either, so Schlittler went back out for the seventh, locked in a scoreless draw. He allowed two singles and two walks to the 6-9 hitters, which brought in the first run. Then, the Yankees turned to Jake Bird, who allowed a sacrifice fly to Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Last year, the Blue Jays served Schlittler the worst start of his young career, scoring four runs in 1.2 innings to knock him out. And then in the playoffs, Schlittler allowed four runs, just two earned, in 6.1 innings against Toronto. The new Yankees ace has been nearly unhittable this season, but the Blue Jays know how to get to him.
