Yankees’ Aaron Boone reveals immediate reaction to Red Sox firing Alex Cora

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have arguably the most heated rivalry in Major League Baseball. Yankees manager Aaron Boone had a strong reaction on Saturday night, when the Red Sox decided to fire their manager Alex Cora.

“I have a feeling he’ll do whatever he wants. He’s a great manager, a smart, talented person that I’m sure will have a lot of opportunities available to him,” Boone said of Cora, per the New York Daily News.

Boone was shocked to learn of the move, the outlet reported. Cora and a slew of other Red Sox coaches were canned Saturday, despite the team’s beatdown of the Baltimore Orioles. Boston is now 10-17 on the year.

“Alex Cora led this organization to one of the greatest seasons in Red Sox history in 2018, and for that, and the many years that followed, he will always have our deepest gratitude,” Red Sox owner John Henry said in part in a statement Saturday, per ESPN. “He has had a lasting impact on this team and on this city. He has led on and off the field in so many important ways. These decisions are never easy, but this one is especially difficult given what Alex has meant to the Red Sox since the day he arrived.”

Rumors are swirling that Cora will be getting a new job soon. Some MLB insiders think the Philadelphia Phillies will move to hire Cora. Time will tell how that shakes out.

While the Red Sox are struggling this season, the Yankees are not. New York has the best record currently in the American League. The Bronx Bombers are 18-9 on the season.
