WWE Champion Cody Rhodes reveals bonkers requests for ‘in gimmick’ funeral

Someday, the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will die, and when he has his funeral, he wants it to be full of “gimmicks.”

Speaking to Dave Dastmalchian for Grave Conversations, Rhodes talked about his eventual death. He doesn’t want to be cremated or buried, leaving him with one option: being buried above ground in a mausoleum.

As for his funeral, he wants his to be similar to the DC comic book series, Identity Crisis. In the comic, there’s a funeral that’s fully “in gimmick.” The “American Nightmare” wants that.

“When my time comes, I want the wrestling world in full gimmick, and I’d bury me in the ‘American Nightmare’ Sandra Gray robe,” he said, listing his desires. “Bury me as I was. I spent so much time giving back to pro wrestling and taking from pro wrestling and love it that I got to play a superhero, and I’d like to go out a superhero.”

He was also asked “how” he’d want to die. While he acknowledged it’d be “unrealistic” to desire a “quiet and peaceful” death, it doesn’t sound like he fears it.

Rhodes, 40, is hopefully a long way away from needing to have his funeral planned. He still has a lot to do in wrestling, let alone in life.

Currently, he is the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion in his third reign. He beat Drew McIntyre to win the title back for a third time in March 2026. Since then, he has had two successful title defenses, those being against Randy Orton and Gunther.

It’s unknown where he is heading next. He will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther again during the June 19, 2026, edition of Friday Night SmackDown. Sami Zayn will serve as the match’s special guest referee. He has a long history with both competitors, including ending Gunther’s 666-day Intercontinental Championship reign in 2024. His presence adds intrigue to the marquee match.
