Writer suggests dropping Trea Turner in Phillies lineup amid brutal struggles

The Philadelphia Phillies have been up and down this season. They had an early-season goal of the World Series, something Phillies star Bryce Harper still thinks is possible.

If the Phillies are going to win a World Series, Trea Turner needs to turn around his season. One local writer, Jim Salisbury, has an idea, which he presented on The Phillies Show.

“It might be the move. Maybe you just drop Trea. Give him a little shock value,” Salisburg said. “Get him down in the lineup and say work your way back up there. You appeal to the competitor in him.”

“I hope he gets out of it soon for the Phillies’ sake, because he is integral,” Ruben Amaro Jr. added.

Turner is currently hitting just .226, which would be his worst average since playing just 27 games his rookie year with the Washington Nationals in 2015. Further, he has just seven home runs and 21 RBIS. He has also struck out 62 times this year. His WAR of 0.3 is also on pace to be the worst of his career.

Turner was brutal in May. That month, he hit just .189 with a .222 on-base percentage. Further, he has just three home runs and eight RBIs. He also scored just 14 runs in the month. He has been slightly better in June this year. He is hitting .250 with a .314 on-base percentage. Still, he has just two extra base hits, with two doubles and two RBIs. He has scored seven times, though.

The Phillies are 36-31 on the season, placing them in second place in the NL East. They are currently holding the second Wild Card spot in the National League. The Phillies finish a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.
