Wolves vs Sunderland predictions

This could have been a particularly tough battle had circumstances been different.

Wolves put up a solid fight against Tottenham despite already having their own relegation confirmed.

Sunderland will be wanting to right their recent wrongs and that could be the crucial motivation in beating Wolves comfortably for the third time in succession.

Sunderland to dominate?

Sunderland have conceded from just 9.2% of their shots faced in the Premier League this season (45 goals conceded from 491 shots), the third best rate in the competition.

Meanwhile, opponents Wolves have the lowest shot conversion rate of any side this term (7.6%).

Of course, this doesn’t take into account Wolves’s improved form, but that was also short lived and they’ve not lost three on the bounce with teams they’re facing battling for much more with their fate already sealed.

Sunderland were doing incredibly well at the start of the year but have dropped so many points in the latter stages of the season, which has seen them drop right out of contention for a surprise European spot.

They will be hoping that there’s a slim chance of that though and could put up a big fight in the last few games to keep those hopes alive and as such will make it tough for Wolves to get into the game let alone score.

The majority of goals Sunderland have conceded have also come in the last two games where they suffered a 5-0 loss to Notts Forest last week and a 4-3 loss to Villa away from home the week before.

They will be desperate to return back to their form from even just a few weeks ago where they consistently obtained clean sheets or only conceded one.

Players to watch

Granit Xhaka is used to being carded plenty of times, as many as ten times in both the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons.

He received a yellow card against Nottingham Forest as they suffered a 5-0 loss.

The Swiss midfielder has been instrumental in their successes this season with plenty of attacking and crucial defensive plays.

He can be added to bet builders for a variety of reasons whether it be cards, fouls or a rare goal involvement – Xhaka assisted three times near the start of the season but has only added a couple since then and has gone on a long run without.

Brian Brobbey however, has consistently posed a big threat up top for Sunderland, with a physical presence and determined playmaking.

He will cause Wolves defenders a huge problem this weekend and he has been hinting at a big goal return in previous games, having also scored against Newcastle and going close against Villa and Forest, with the latter being chalked off for a controversial offside.
