Wings’ Li Yueru draws concerning update for clash against former team

The Dallas Wings come into their matchup on Friday against the Los Angeles Sparks looking to extend their current three-game win streak. After getting off to a poor start to the season, the Wings have seemingly turned things around. But it appears as if the Wings will be short-handed in the frontcourt with Li Yueru being the latest addition to the team’s injury report.

Li Yueru was officially listed as questionable for the Wings’ game against the Sparks due to what’s being called an ankle injury. Awak Kuier has already been ruled out due to a wrist injury, giving the Wings a major size disadvantage against a Sparks frontcourt that boasts the likes of Nneka Ogwumike, Dearica Hamby and Cameron Brink.

Yueru played for the Sparks during the 2024 season before being included as part of the sign-and-trade that yielded the Sparks Kelsey Plum.

She has been a topic of interest as of late for Wings fans amid her role on the team and a few cryptic social media posts she made in recent days. The first post contained the caption, ‘Still standing. Barely.’ After an outcry of fan concern, Yueru followed that up with, “Thank you for all the support. I’m safe. I’m healthy. But I’ve never felt this disappointed and helpless.”

The most recent post came on Tuesday with the caption, ‘Don’t burn bridges. You never know when you’ll cross paths again.’

The posts came amid Yueru’s dwindling role on the Wings. She started out in the team’s rotation at the beginning of the regular season, but has since seen her role diminish. She’s appeared in six of the Wings’ eight games thus far, averaging 2.2 points and 2.7 rebounds while shooting less than 20 percent from the field.

Now with an apparent ankle injury, Yueru’s future with the Wings could be in question.
