Iga Swiatek keeps incredible streak alive with dominant win to move into US Open Round 3

Polish Iga Swiatek continued her remarkable Grand Slam consistency Thursday, defeating Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska 6-3, 6-2 to reach the third round of the 2026 US Open. The World No. 8 needed just one hour and 11 minutes to complete the win.

The result extended Swiatek’s run of reaching at least the third round at every Grand Slam since the 2020 Australian Open. Her streak now stands at 27 consecutive majors, and she is the only player, male or female, to have reached the third round at every Grand Slam played this decade. In the Open Era, only Martina Navratilova, with streaks of 35 and 30, and Conchita Martinez, with 30, have had longer runs in women’s singles majors.

Swiatek was particularly effective behind her serve against Podoroska. She landed 79 percent of her first serves and won 78 percent of those points while avoiding every break opportunity converted against her. Podoroska’s biggest chance came late in the opening set after she held for 5-3 and created three break opportunities. Swiatek fought through the pressure, using two unreturned serves before eventually taking the set on her second set point when Podoroska sent a forehand wide.

The second set was much more straightforward. Swiatek broke twice to race to a 5-1 advantage before closing the match on serve. She finished with 14 winners and 13 unforced errors, while Podoroska recorded 11 winners and 12 unforced errors.

Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam champion at age 25, is now set to face 25th seed Marie Bouzkova. Bouzkova advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Harriet Dart. Swiatek has won all three of her previous meetings with Bouzkova and has never dropped a set against her, including a 6-2, 6-3 win at the Australian Open earlier this year.
