Will former Cy Young winner return to Blue Jays’ rotation soon?
The Toronto Blue Jays are dealing with multiple injury concerns at the moment. Former Cy Young winning pitcher Shane Bieber is among the Blue Jays battling injury trouble. Bieber, who is recovering from an elbow injury, received an important update on Friday, via Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.
“Shane Bieber (elbow) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on Monday, throwing two innings for the Florida Complex League Blue Jays,” Zwelling reported. “He’ll build up volume from there, shooting for three innings his next time out.”
The Blue Jays are being cautious with Bieber amid his injury recovery. The last thing they want to do is bring him back too soon and risk further injury. The hope is to have Bieber available for a potential postseason run.
Bieber, 30, was traded from the Cleveland Guardians to the Blue Jays during the 2025 season. He appeared in seven regular season contests with Toronto, turning in a respectable 3.57 ERA during that span. He also pitched to a 3.86 ERA in five postseason appearances (four starts).
As mentioned, Toronto is hoping to have Bieber available for a postseason run. However, they need to perform better if the ball club wants to reach the playoffs.
Toronto entered Friday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 23-27 record. The Blue Jays are in third place in the American League East standings.
There is no shortage of time to turn things around. Nevertheless, the Blue Jays would prefer to get back on track sooner rather than later.
Updates on Shane Bieber’s injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.
