Will Brewers’ Dustin May make next start vs. Rangers after injury scare?

The Milwaukee Brewers received a bit of a scare against the New York Mets. Veteran starting pitcher Dustin May went down with an injury early on after being hit with a line drive right back to the mound. His outing against the Mets lasted just one pitch due to this injury.

After the injury, some wondered whether May would be out long-term. He wasn’t hit in the head, thankfully, but being hit with a sorcher off the bat can still cause a significant injury. At this time, it seems as if the veteran hurler will be good to go here soon.

“Dustin May is penciled in to start Sunday, Murph said. And Robert Gasser will stay in May’s spot,” Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reported on Friday evening.

It’s certainly a positive sign to see the veteran take the mound so soon. Given his light outing against the Mets, the Brewers can afford to start him again immediately following the 8-1 win over New York, as well.

May will start the series finale against the Texas Rangers. Then, Milwaukee will begin a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Gasser will start the second game of that series on Tuesday.

The Brewers are one of the best teams in baseball and are well on track to make the postseason as the regular season nears its end. Milwaukee has a seven and a half game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. That lead could grow even more before the calendar rolls over to September.
