Why NFL reporter likes Odell Beckham Jr.’s odds to make Giants’ 53-man roster
The New York Giants signed Odell Beckham Jr. in early June, giving the veteran wideout a chance to return to the team that drafted him back in 2014. However, a spot on the 53-man roster is not guaranteed, but at least one reporter likes Beckham’s chances.
Hours before the preseason finale between the Giants and New York Jets, Connor Hughes of SNYtv claims that the player to watch in Friday’s matchup is the 33-year-old wide receiver. He likes Beckham’s odds of making the final roster, especially with Calvin Austin out for the season with a knee injury.
“Really, there’s only one thing I think to watch in this game,” Hughes said… “It is Odell Beckham Jr. I like his odds to the team now, ever since Calvin Austin went down that season-ending knee injury. But he still needs to have a decent enough showing here. We’ve seen Odell get open, we’ve seen him create separation, we’ve seen him do a lot of the things that I think most people around the league didn’t think he was capable of.”

It sounds like the three-time Pro Bowler has looked good throughout training camp, at least from a route-running perspective. Hughes wants to see Beckham record some receptions in Friday’s preseason game to help solidify his spot on the Giants’ 53-man roster.
Odell Beckham Jr. has not played since the 2024-25 campaign when he appeared in nine games with the Miami Dolphins. He was on the back end of the depth chart and only came down with nine receptions for 55 yards.
