Why The Rock wore a skirt to the 2026 Met Gala

One of the most popular celebrities all over the world, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, shocked his fans with his unique Met Gala 2026 attire. Rocking the stage with wife Lauren Hashian, Johnson was seen wearing a black mohair tailcoat and a bow tie paired with a matching pleated skirt.

Walking down the red carpet with his wife, Johnson was asked about his custom-made Thom Browne look. “I feel great!” Johnson said when asked about wearing a skirt. “First, [Thom Browne’s team] sent the illustrations over and [asked], ‘Hey, is Deej going to be cool with this pleated skirt?’ And I was like, ‘Look, in our culture, Polynesian culture, we rock lavalavas, we rock skirts.’ The most masculine men, not that I’m one of them, but the most masculine men wear lavalavas and skirts” (via Variety). Variety also noted that the tailcoat featured over 350 meters of hand-pleated silk ribbons in a “skeletal composition.”

The 2026 Met Gala theme was “Fashion is Art.” Beyoncé co-chaired this year’s event along with Nicole Kidman, Venue Williams, and Anna Wintour. Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz headed the gala host committee, which also included Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, and many others.

A few months ago, during an interview with Raffi Talks, “The Rock” opened up about the potential chances of him appearing at WWE WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia. “Well, I can tell you that I’m excited for the brand of WrestleMania. I’m excited for the Kingdom [of Saudi Arabia] because that is a big show, and I’m also excited, not only for the brand, but I’m excited for our athletes to be able to go participate in an event like that. And that is a global event — and so, I can’t wait.”
