Why Phillies’ Dave Dombrowski isn’t thinking about Alex Cora possibility right now

After an otherwise rough start to the season for the Philadelphia Phillies, they are showing positive signs to make it to the postseason. Though nothing looks guaranteed on paper, they are clinging to a tightly contested wild card spot in the NL.

The team president, Dave Dombrowski, recently shared his honest thoughts on the team’s future while answering New York Post’s MLB insider Jon Heyman’s question regarding Alex Cora.

For those unaware, the Phillies fired team manager Cora earlier this season after an underwhelming start for the team. Philadelphia was down 10-17 at the time of the shocking coaching decision.

However, Dombrowski cleared up the buzz around how things stand with the former team manager.

“Well, really haven’t thought anything, like I said, about that,” he said when Heyman asked if “Cora could be a possibility for the Phillies down the road.”

“Alex Cora did a great job for us in Boston. He’s, to me, a very good big league manager. He’s a friend of mine at this point, but really all of those things are for future topics at the end of the season. And really we haven’t gotten into those at all because I don’t think that it’s ever good to not focus on what we need to do, which is right here on the field, so tremendous person,” the president added.

While Dombrowski kept his focus on all things Philly, he did not rule out the possibility of a probable return for the former manager altogether.

“And when you mention those good managers, he’s writing that same topic of conversation, but we’ll wait and see what happens after the season goes as far as the Phillies in 2027,” he further said.
