Why Martin St. Louis believes loss to Hurricanes will help Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens have fallen short of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final after Friday’s Game 5 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Canadiens are still trying to process this unfortunate loss. But head coach Martin St. Louis is hopeful this experience will be beneficial in the long run.
“I feel like it’s something we’ve built, and we keep growing. We’ve learned, and we’re going to learn a lot through this process and failing at advancing. But you learn way more through the failures,” the Montreal bench boss said on Friday night, via Rocket Media reporter Chris Galanopoulos.
“This year, I know we’re not moving on, we’re not going to win the championship, but there’s a lot of wins in what we did this year. I think it’s going to help us to keep progressing.”
There are certainly a lot of lessons to be learned from this postseason run. It was a run that had various ups and downs, as well as a lot of close calls. The Canadiens needed seven games to eliminate both the Tampa Bay Lightning and Buffalo Sabres before making the East Final, for instance.
The East Final also started off perfectly for the Canadiens. Montreal jumped all over a rusty Hurricanes squad to win by the final score of 6-2. However, Carolina quickly knocked off the rust and won each of the next four games.
Montreal could have had home ice advantage in the Stanley Cup Final had they advanced. Instead, that will go to Carolina, who will host Game 1 of the Final on Tuesday night against the Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights.
