Why do Timberwolves keep coming up short? Anthony Edwards has no comment

The Minnesota Timberwolves had their postseason end after losing to the San Antonio Spurs in the second round, and it was obvious that they were beaten by the better team. Yes, Anthony Edwards was playing on two bad knees, and other players were also dealing with injuries, but the Spurs seemed to have more juice than their opponent.

The past two seasons, the Timberwolves have seen their season end in the Western Conference Finals. This season, it was a series early, and nobody knows if they’ll ever be able to get over the hump.

That’s why Edwards was asked that question after the game.

“[What’s] the biggest thing that’s maybe causing you guys to come up short in this series, or one thing that you’re seeing again and again that’s making it tough [these past three years]?” a reporter asked.

“Good question. No comment,” Edwards said.

Edwards may know the answer, but it seems like he didn’t want to ruffle any feathers. The Timberwolves didn’t get enough from players such as Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert, which was one reason why they couldn’t overcome the Spurs this season. In the past two seasons, they’ve lost to teams that had more talent than them.

And that’s probably where the issue lies: the Timberwolves need someone close to Edwards’ caliber to have a chance to get over that hump. The organization knows that as well, which is why they tried to go after Giannis Antetokounmpo at the trade deadline. Rumors say that they’ll continue their pursuit in the offseason, but they’re going to have to put a nice package together to get him.

If they’re not able to land Antetokounmpo, they may have to prioritize re-signing some of their players and hope they can add some more talent to the team.
