White Sox hit with disappointing Munetaka Murakami injury update after walk-off win

The Chicago White Sox got hit with some tough injury news, when slugger Munetaka Murakami went down with an injury on Friday. Chicago is getting more information about their streaking slugger, who has done so much to help lift up the offense.

“Looks like a little hamstring strain on the initial evaluation. He’ll get some imaging tomorrow, but probably a couple weeks,” White Sox manager Will Venable said of Murakami’s recovery timeline, per MLB.com. “Nothing official, got to continue the evaluation. But it might be a couple weeks.”

The infielder experienced hamstring tightness, in a game Friday against the Detroit Tigers. He left the contest due to that ailment.

Murakami has 20 home runs on the season and 41 RBIs for Chicago. He is headed to the 10-day injured list, the team announced on Saturday.

This is really tough news for Chicago. The White Sox, who have struggled tremendously the last several seasons, appear to finally be on track again. The club is in the conversation for a playoff spot, just a few months into the season.

Murakami has been a big reason why. He signed a free-agent deal with Chicago before the 2026 season. The White Sox were the team most willing to give the infielder a deal somewhere in the ballpark of what he wanted.

White Sox fans hope Murakami is back playing for the team very soon. Chicago is meanwhile bringing up infielder Jacob Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte.

Chicago is currently 30-27 on the campaign. The White Sox play the Detroit Tigers again on Saturday.
