Eddie Howe‘s side demolished Qarabag in their play-off to reach this stage, winning 9-3 on aggregate.

But now, they will need to overcome Barca to give themselves the best chance of reaching the quarter-finals for the first time ever.

Taking a positive result to Spain will be key against a side that finished fifth in the league phase, winning five from eight games.

Lamine Yamal and co. are clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga too, proving just how much of a tough opponent they will be for Newcastle.

Newcastle vs Barcelona: What has been said?

Speaking about facing Barcelona after losing to Man City at the weekend, Howe said: “It’s easy to be negative at the moment.

“I understand we’ve gone out of the FA Cup, but we have the biggest game in the club’s history coming up and we’ve got to approach it that way.

“We’ve never been in this position in the Champions League before and it’s the best competition there is.

“We have got to get the players ready for that and we’ve no time to dwell on this.”
