What’s next for Yankees’ Max Fried after exiting Orioles game with elbow injury concern?

The New York Yankees were looking like they were on their way to getting back healthy, and then somebody else goes down. Max Fried was pulled from his start against the Baltimore Orioles after only three innings due to elbow soreness, and he’ll be getting imaging soon, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

“Max Fried exited the game with left elbow posterior soreness, the Yankees announced. He will be examined by team physician Dr. Chris Ahmad and undergo imaging tomorrow in New York,” Hoch wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Fried went to the tunnel after the Orioles scored twice in the third inning, and Paul Blackburn was seen warming in the bullpen while batting in the fourth. Through three innings, Fried allowed three runs and five hits.

Fried has dealt with blister issues on his left finger and has been on the injured list several times from 2018 to 2023 while he was with the Atlanta Braves.

The good news for the Yankees is that Carlos Rodon just returned to the rotation after having surgery last October to remove loose bodies in his left elbow and shave a bone spur. Gerrit Cole is also set to return soon after having elbow ligament replacement surgery in March 2025. He’s had five minor league rehab starts, and he’s set to make two or three more.

For the time being, Cam Schlittler, Will Warren and Ryan Weathers have been in the pitching rotation for the Yankees, and the hope is that they can continue to hold things down if Fried has to miss extended time.
