Brewers’ Cooper Pratt gets official injury timeline from Pat Murphy
Cooper Pratt has become quite the important player for the Milwaukee Brewers, solidifying the shortstop position for the NL Central leader. The rookie, however, is currently on the mend after suffering a strained right hamstring, with Milwaukee placing the 21-year-old on the 10-day injured list on the ninth of August.
The Brewers, however, will have to prepare for life without Pratt for at least multiple weeks if their latest update is any indication for how his recovery will go. According to Curt Hogg of Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Pratt is expected to return in late August. The good news at least is that, as per manager Pat Murphy, the 21-year-old shortstop is making “solid progress” in his rehab.
Soft tissue injuries require extreme caution from the medical staff, and for such a young player in Pratt, the Brewers are surely going to bring him along slowly.
Milwaukee, in Pratt’s absence, has been shuffling around their infield. David Hamilton has drawn two starts at shortstop amid Pratt’s injury, but the Brewers decided to switch things up on Tuesday — starting star second baseman Brice Turang at short to give the team a different look.
The good news is that Milwaukee is versatile enough defensively that they can fill in for Pratt by committee. However, Pratt made it so that Milwaukee didn’t have to worry about that position whatsoever.
Pratt, through his first 44 games in the big leagues, has recorded an OPS of .720 with above-average defense and baserunning at the most difficult position on the infield (outside of catcher). The Brewers signed him to an eight-year, $50.75 million extension before he even made his debut in MLB.
The Brewers keep on producing quality talent across the diamond; Pratt was a sixth-round pick back in 2023, and he’s already in the big leagues three years later making an impact in the pennant race.
