Fever’s Caitlin Clark makes ‘sick’ admission on fans booing Stephanie White

Indiana Fever star point guard Caitlin Clark was not going to let the unwanted gesture directed at her coach go without calling it out. Fever head coach Stephanie White was apparently booed by Indiana fans during Tuesday’s game between her team and the visiting New York Liberty at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana. Following the game, which the Fever won to the tune of a 106-92 score, Clark spoke out to defend her coach.

“I hated that our fans booed her before the game. That made me a little sick, to be honest,” the former WNBA Rookie of the Year Award winner said (h/t Alexa Philippou of ESPN).

“We’re going to ride for her, and we’re always going to have her back,” added Clark, who played a big role in the Fever’s win over New York.

White has been on the receiving end of fan criticisms for not speaking out against the actions of Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington following the player’s flagrant foul on Fever guard Sophie Cunningham in a game last Saturday.

As a result, many fans, including supporters of the Fever, felt that White did not do enough to stand by her player. White, who is in her second season coaching the Fever, already addressed the matter in a fiery rant before the Liberty game, but it must feel good for her to hear the WNBA’s most popular player defend her.

As for the Liberty game, Clark scored 22 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the floor with four 3-pointers and 10 assists, while Kelsey Mitchell led the way for Indiana with 28 points on 11-for-16 shooting from the field.
