Jets’ Aaron Glenn pinpoints why he believes 2026 will be Geno Smith’s best season

The New York Jets have gone all-in on Geno Smith as their starting quarterback in 2026. Head coach Aaron Glenn has high expectations for his return to New York.

Alongside Smith, the Jets also brought in Frank Reich as their new offensive coordinator. Glenn is convinced the QB-OC pairing will lead to a career year for Smith, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.

“Man, I think him joining Frank (Reich), his best years I feel will be these years here,” Glenn said.

Reich came to New York with plenty of experience on the sidelines. He has been head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers and has been an offensive coordinator with the then-San Diego Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles and now Jets. All those years helping crafting offenses gives Reich the tools necessary to help Smith.

The question is will he be able to translate Reich’s teachings onto the gridiron. Smith’s lone season with the Las Vegas Raiders saw him go 2-13 as a starter, throwing for 3,025 yards, 19 touchdowns and a league-leading 17 interceptions. The quarterback has plenty of prove as he returns to the Jets for the first time since 2016.

Still, Smith was a Pro Bowler as recently as 2023. He proved to be more than a serviceable quarterback during his run with the Seattle Seahawks. He’s now a few years removed from that experience, but Glenn and the Jets are convinced he still has some gas left in the tank.

It’ll now be up to Reich to help elevate Smith’s game even further. Glenn sees that coming to fruition in a big way during the 2026 season.
