Watch Athletics’ Shea Langeliers hit club’s first-ever HR in Las Vegas
The Athletics are currently playing their home games in Sacramento, California. Still, Sacramento will lose its temporary MLB team in the 2028 season, as the Athletics will be moving to Las Vegas, Nevada.
As part of the preparation for the move to Vegas, the Athletics are playing six games in Vegas at Las Vegas Ball Park, the home of the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A affiliate of the Athletics. On Monday night, the first MLB game in Vegas since 1996 was played between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Athletics. Shea Langeliers made sure to get the home crowd excited quickly.

It was the club’s first-ever home run in Las Vegas, and it came in the bottom of the first inning. Langeliers took the first pitch of the bottom of the inning over the left field wall, slamming into the Las Vegas Ballpark signage. Green fireworks went off, and fans went insane, per Martin Gallegos of MLB.com.
“The atmosphere was good,” Langeliers said. “There was a lot of energy. Cool production to start with a flyover. Those are always awesome. I thought it was cool.”
It was just a table setter for the fireworks to come in an insane game between the two clubs. The home run from Langeliers tied the game in the bottom of the first, and the A’s took the lead on a double in the bottom of the second. Brice Turang would hit the next home run in the third inning, giving the Brewers the lead once again. A few batters later, Andrew Vaughn took a ball deep for a third home run of the game.
The bottom of the third saw more long balls. Tyler Soderstrom hit a three-run shot before Zach Gelof added a solo shot, making it 8-4. After the Brewers got a run back in the fifth, Nick Kurtz hit a bomb in the bottom of the sixth, making it 9-5. Jake Bauers then hit a two-run dinger in the top of the seventh, before Soderstrom hit his second of the game in the bottom of the seventh.
The Brewrs scored a run on a wild pitch in the eighth, but it seemed the fireworks would be coming to an end until a two-RBI double in the top of the ninth sent the game to extra innings. The two teams would combine for eight runs in the tenth inning, including three more home runs, before the game was decided for the Brewers in the 12th, as they took a 15-14 win.
Overall, the first game in Vegas saw 34 hits, 11 home runs, and 29 runs. The two teams will meet again for game two of the series on Tuesday night.
