Warriors rumors: Insiders warn ‘caution’ about potential offseason trade bombshell

With the Golden State Warriors losing to the Phoenix Suns in the play-in tournament on Friday night, the team is now sent home with a key offseason ahead of them. As the Warriors’ play-in tourney loss to the Suns could have fans wanting the team to get another chance at a big star, the franchise gets a warning about making a big deal.

It was a disappointing season for Golden State, especially with the team plagued by injuries, including Curry missing significant time and Jimmy Butler being sidelined with a season-ending injury earlier in the year. Now with names like LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Kawhi Leonard potentially up for play, reporting from The Athletic’s Nick Friedell and Marcus Thompson II share a warning.

“While the Warriors are going to have plenty of options, one team source recently cautioned that the organization didn’t plan on dealing multiple future assets to load up on even more veterans. Plus, with their cap situation and the uncertainty surrounding Butler and Moody, it will be more difficult to make a dramatic change. Still, the Warriors have all their first-round picks and, likely, a variety of choices,” Friedell and Thompson wrote.

The Warriors are looking to continue their dynasty with Stephen Curry

It will no doubt be a tricky situation for the Warriors, as The Athletic notes that the team’s cap situation is one that isn’t spacious that could bring in a player like Antetokounmpo or Leonard, unless they move on from Butler or someone else. The reporters would ponder about James potentially being signed on to Golden State’s $15 million non-taxpayer midlevel exception, though even with that, the team has to trade Butler or Kristaps Porzingis moving on.

A lot of scenarios would hard-cap the team at the first apron, which would limit other areas. Either way, one would have to think that the Warriors’ dynasty, including Curry, is on its final legs, with acquiring another star being the pathway to continue to compete.

At any rate, the team looks to improve after the Warriors finished with a 37-45 record, putting them 10th in the West.
