Vikings rumors: Insider gives new GM biggest roster priority outside QB
The Minnesota Vikings have a lot of work to do to turn the franchise around. Minnesota brought in GM Nolan Teasley to take over the roster, with a big priority being the quarterback position. But there is one other important priority that Teasley needs to consider before the start of the 2026 season.
The Athletic’s Alec Lewis created a to-do list for the Vikings heading into the quiet part of the offseason. Lewis named one big priority that Teasley needs to work on after sorting the quarterback position.
Next up could be a contract extension for veteran tackle Brian O’Neill.
“The 30-year-old right tackle has been steady for eight seasons. Coach Kevin O’Connell consistently calls him one of the players he respects the most,” Lewis wrote. “Add in his durability and performance, and you have a player at a premium position who deserves the requisite pay. Notably, his contract is set to expire after the 2026 season.”
O’Neill and the Vikings reportedly broached the subject of an extension earlier this offseason. But any potential deal could be pricey, as O’Neill could land more than $22.5 million per season if he intends to reset the market.
The Vikings have $13.40 million in cap space in 2026 and are projected to have $46.11 million in 2027. That means Minnesota will need to make some tough choices over the next year, including potential extensions for other franchise stars.
“Budgeting for this could become an interesting proposition for the Vikings. The team will have to decide on Jordan Addison’s future, and Andrew Van Ginkel’s contract is scheduled to be voided after 2026. Most importantly, uncertainty around the team’s quarterback situation clouds spending elsewhere.”
Teasley certainly has his work cut out for himself as he attempts to move Minnesota back in the right direction.
