Victor Wembanyama practice footage spurs optimism for Blazers Game 3
The San Antonio Spurs are preparing for their Game 3 contest against Deni Avdija and the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night. But everyone is still awaiting an update on the status of Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.
Wembanyama suffered a head injury in the second quarter of Game 2 and entered concussion protocol, ruling him out of that contest and putting his status for Game 3 in jeopardy. Over the last few days, however, Wembanyama has been able to get on the court and do light work, including shooting around.
The team listed Wembanyama as, “Questionable,” to play on Friday night against the Blazers with the series shifting to Portland for Games 3 and 4. The team held a shootaround Friday morning inside the Blazers’ Moda Center, and Wembanyama was able to take part in the practice.
Jared Weiss of the Athletic and Michael Wright of ESPN both captured footage of Wembanyama at the team’s morning shootaround, running, jumping, shooting, and appearing like he’s ready to go.

Still, it’s hard to imagine the Blazers not being extremely cautious and holding out their superstar and Defensive Player of the Year for at least one night as he tries to get back to 100 percent.
The Spurs held a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter of a Game 2 they played mostly without Victor Wembanyama, bit the Portland Trail Blazer closed the game out on a 27-10 run to escape San Antonio with a win and the series tied, 1-1.
Friday’s game is scheduled to tipoff at 7:30PM PST, which will afford Wembanyama a few more hours to get right before returning. It is important to note, however, that Wembanyama needs to be cleared by both the Spurs doctors and an NBA neurologist before he’s eligible to make his return to the court.
Wembanyama recorded 35 points with five made three-pointers in Game 1, setting a Spurs franchise record for points and three-pointers made in a playoff debut. He was able to muster up five points and four rebounds in 11 minutes before suffering the injury and entering concussion protocol in Game 2.
