49ers’ Christian McCaffrey raves about surprise he discovered in Australia

The San Francisco 49ers have arrived in Melbourne, Australia, where they will face the Los Angeles Rams this Thursday, September 10, in a pivotal regular-season opener. Superstar 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has been pacing himself ahead of the 2026 season in hopes of staying fresh and getting the most out of his considerable talents.

On Sunday, one of McCaffrey’s favorite parts of his Australia experience so far was revealed by David Lombardi of The San Francisco Standard, a revelation that the 49ers running back thinks should be mentioned more often.

“The coffee is unbelievable,” McCaffrey said according to Lombardi. “I don’t know why people didn’t talk as much about that as they should’ve beforehand.”

McCaffrey could use an extra jolt of energy going up against a Rams defensive front that suddenly looks as daunting as any in recent league history with NFL legend Aaron Donald returning to join pass-rushing force Myles Garrett, formerly of the Cleveland Browns. McCaffrey is coming off of a 17-game, 1,202-yard, 10-touchdown 2025-26 season that erased many long-held doubts about his durability.

The 49ers started off last season with a 17-13 win over the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and would love to score another big victory to start off the 2026-27 campaign. McCaffrey helped keep the Seahawks’ offense off the field in that game with 69 yards rushing and 73 yards receiving, giving his quarterback Brock Purdy a security blanket that helped keep him productive and upright against a stout defense.

With the Rams looking to hit Purdy on Thursday, Christian McCaffrey’s health, which has been a question mark through training camp at times, is paramount. The 49ers superstar looks and sounds ready heading into Thursday, and will look to end his Australian experience in the best way possible — with a big win over the Rams.
