Veronica Burton’s big night vs. Fever sets new Valkyries first

The Golden State Valkyries were not going to let Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever punk them again.

Valkyries guard Veronica Burton helped make sure of that, as she put together a huge performance in a 90-88 victory over the visiting Fever on Thursday night at Chase Center in San Francisco, California.

The 25-year-old Burton went off for 25 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field and added six rebounds with three assists. She did it all for Golden State, even swatting away five shots on defense, becoming the first Valkyries player to have at least 20 points, five rebounds and five blocks in a game.

“Burton has also become the first player in GSV history to record a 20-point, 5-block, 5-rebound game,” Kendra Andrews of ESPN wrote in a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

It was definitely a much better showing from the former Northwestern Wildcats star than the one she had in the 90-82 loss to the Fever last Friday on the road. Burton wasn’t too shabby either in that contest, with 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and two blocks to her name, but she managed to eclipse that performance this time around.

Also, Burton is seemingly still raising her game after winning the WNBA’s Most Improved Award in 2025 — her first season with the Valkyries.

Apart from Burton, Golden State also leaned on the scoring prowess of Gabby Williams to defeat the Fever, with Williams putting up 19 points to go along with six assists.

The 5-2 Valkyries have another tough assignment ahead, as they are scheduled to host the reigning WNBA champions Las Vegas Aces on Sunday.
