2026 World Cup co-hosts USA were very impressive in their 4-1 win over Paraguay to kick off their World Cup campaign in the first match World Cup match played on US soil in 32 years.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were electric, particularly in the first half, and really stamped their authority on Group D and their intentions on the tournament as a whole as they bid to reach the latter stages of the World Cup for the first time since reaching the quarter finals in 2002.
The Stars and Stripes will now have their full intentions set on winning Group D having got off to the perfect start in this summer’s tournament, and particularly after a highly fancied Turkey side, who were expected to be their closest challengers, losing their opening game.
Pochettino’s side will know that a point against Australia on Friday night will guarantee their place in the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup, but will also realise a win could see them finish top of the group and given a kinder path through the knockout stages.
Australia upset the odds in their opening clash in Vancouver by defeating a highly regarded Turkey team, who headed into the tournament as many people’s dark horses to go deep, by a 2-0 scoreline.
Tony Popovic’s side will be looking to put in a similar performance on Friday night in their bid for a place in the knockout stage of this summer’s World Cup that didn’t seem likely heading into the tournament.
The Socceroos have only gone beyond the knockout stage on two previous occasions in their history, and have never won more than one game at a single World Cup tournament so far, but that could change on Friday night.
The two sides did meet each other as recently as October, in a match which saw the US come back from a goal down to defeat Australia 2-1 in Colorado.
With so much to play for there’s going to be plenty of options on bet builders, especially cards and goals which can be used to bet £10 and get £40 in free bets as a new customer and the 50% bet builder boost.
