Jurgen Klopp would have raided Championship club to sign Mohamed Salah replacement

Jarrod Bowen would already be on the Liverpool books as Mohamed Salah’s replacement had Jurgen Klopp still been at the Anfield helm.

That’s according to former Premier League midfielder and Liverpool fan Kevin Nolan, who suggested the West Ham captain is the ideal replacement for the Reds icon.

Salah officially played his final game for Liverpool back in May having confirmed that this season would be his last on Merseyside.

However, despite ample time to prepare for his departure, Liverpool are yet to sign a replacement for the Egypt international.

Yan Diomande was a top target for the 2024/25 Premier League champions, though they have since missed out on the Real Madrid-bound Ivorian.

French winger Bradley Barcola is another on the club’s radar, even if the Paris Saint-Germain man operates better from the left rather than Salah’s favoured right side.

And as Liverpool scramble to replace the former Roma man, Nolan believes Klopp, who left the Reds in 2024, would have sanctioned the signing of Bowen had the German still been in charge.

Presenter and talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook mentioned that while Salah didn’t have his best season last season, he still needs replacing, to which Nolan said: “Of course he does.

“I’m surprised Jarrod Bowen wasn’t linked. I know when Jurgen Klopp was there, he really really liked Jarrod Bowen and he was high on the priority list.

“I think if Jurgen was still there, I think he probably would be a Liverpool player now.”

Bowen was one of a number of West Ham players linked with a summer exit following the Hammers’ relegation last season.

The east London side finished two points behind rivals Tottenham Hotspur as they joined Burnley and Wolves in the Championship.

Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville have both departed the London Stadium for Spurs and Saudi club Al Hilal, respectively, following their relegation.

talkSPORT understands the Hammers are keen on replacing the Dutchman with Spurs winger Manor Solomon.

West Ham skipper Bowen, though, won’t be leaving the capital outfit this summer having put pen to paper on a new deal with the Hammers.

However, talkSPORT understands that Bowen is free to leave West Ham next summer should they fail to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

Nuno’s side get their Championship campaign underway with a trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Sunday August 16.
