Tyson Fury’s dad John explains why son can’t beat Oleksandr Usyk in trilogy
John Fury is not confident his son Tyson Fury will ever get revenge on Oleksandr Usyk.
The 60-year-old has played a huge role in Fury‘s rise over the past 15 years, but was absent from ‘The Gypsy King’s’ corner for his last fight — a second points defeat to Usyk in December 2024.

John then claimed he would rejoin his son’s camp for his grand return, with the Briton set to face Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 11.
But, after causing mayhem at the Fury vs Makhmudov press conference last month, John revealed this week in a bombshell interview that the pair’s relationship is now ‘completely destroyed’.
Speaking to Playbook Boxing, John added that his son is only ‘getting weaker’ and believes ‘nothing will change’ if he meets Usyk for a third time in the future.
John Fury: Tyson is only getting weaker compared to Usyk
“He’s 38 [this year], he hasn’t been in the ring for 18 months and people are filling his head with nonsense,” John explained.
“Nothing’s gonna change. Tyson’s getting weaker and Usyk’s getting stronger.
“All I ever said to him was this: if I’d been in his corner and he got into trouble, he wouldn’t die.
“But if he gets into trouble with them in his corner, he could end up dead or with brain damage for life.
“Because when your legs are gone, you need someone to save you.
“They won’t do that. They won’t throw the towel in. They won’t pull him out.
“Their egos are bigger than Tyson, bigger than the fight itself and that’s how people get seriously hurt in this game.

“You’ve seen it before—one shot, bang and it’s over. It can happen just like that. It’s a dangerous sport.”
Usyk surprisingly named Fury on his three-man hit list this month to fight before he retires.
The Ukrainian heavyweight legend is scheduled to fight kickboxing legend Rico Verhoeven at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt on May 23 for the WBC heavyweight title.
Usyk then wants to fight the winner of Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois, before turning his attention to his self-proclaimed ‘friend, greedy belly, Tyson Fury.’
The 39-year-old handed Fury the first defeat of his career in May 2024 and claimed another decision win after 12 rounds in the rematch seven months later.
He has previously admitted that a trilogy with ‘The Gypsy King’ will only happen if the latter can get his hands on gold again.
