Tyson Fury lands 25/1 gamble at Cartmel with Big Gypsy King amid talks of Anthony Joshua fight

Tyson Fury landed a huge win at the weekend but it wasn’t in the ring, it was down at Cartmel Racecourse in Cumbria.

The horse he owns, aptly named Big Gypsy King got her first win over hurdles at a massive 25/1.

Both Fury and boxing manager Spencer Brown own the horse and the four-year-old filly landed a huge surprise on Sunday.

Leah Noreci, an apprentice rider, claimed 10lb on the horse in the Molson Coors Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle which surely helped the Sea The Moon progeny get to the line against the odds.

But the horse hadn’t shown any signs previous to this that she was due a win of this calibre and she ended up winning by seven lengths.

Her previous race, a maiden hurdle also under Noreci saw them finishing fourth of seven a mere 40 lengths behind the winner Flying Ace at Cartmel last month.

Fury was at Cartmel last August when Big Gypsy King made her debut over hurdles, in a meeting that saw a horse collide with racegoers.

However, Sunday saw no such tragedy and ended in a win for the Gypsy King himself.

Big Gypsy King had just one win prior to the victory on Sunday, which came all the way back in May 2025 at Chelmsford on the flat when she was rated a lowly 46 and remains as such on the flat.

The move to jumps has clearly paid off and trainer James Moffatt will be looking to see what lies next for the four-year-old.

Fury posted on his Instagram story a replay of the race that saw his horse come home clear in front and landed the owners a cool £5,446.

The race itself looked destined to go to the 1/2 favourite Cinating.

However, that Gordon Elliott-trained horse who was prominent at the start had to be pulled up quickly after the fourth flight of hurdles, opening the race up for a big surprise from the other eight runners.

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury

All this comes amid speculation of a future and long-awaited fight between the two British star heavyweights, Anthony Joshua.

The two titans are set to clash at the end of this year after taking on preparation fights.

This bout has been a decade in the making but first Joshua will be fighting Kristian Prenga on July 25 before Fury makes his own awaited return to the ring in August with a fighter still to be decided.

There’s also talk of the venue and where they could possibly hold this mammoth fight, but Cartmel racecourse won’t be expecting any calls as Las Vegas looks to be the frontrunner.
