Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua finally set to face off as superstar duo’s plan for heavyweight blockbuster revealed

It’s finally happening.

According to The Ring, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will fight in 2026.

The report adds their blockbuster bout will headline a bumper Riyadh Season event.

But before Fury and Joshua lay a glove on one another they will have separate bouts, with those to also fall during Riyadh Season.

When is Anthony Joshua back in action?

Joshua is already set to return to the ring as soon as December 19, when he squares off against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami.

The British Olympian will need to emerge from that bout unscathed to keep plans in place for his eventual showdown with Fury.

Should that transpire, there are plans in place for Joshua to fight again in February.

As for Fury, he is currently retired having dropped a unanimous decision verdict to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.

But the lure of beating Joshua coupled with what looks set to be one of his most lucrative paydays ever appear to be enough for ‘The Gypsy King’ to dust off the gloves once more.

Who could Tyson Fury face in his first fight back?

Before Fury can lay hands on Joshua, he too must make it past whoever he fights in his comeback bout.

A number of opponents have been mooted for Fury, including a trilogy bout against Usyk, despite having lost twice to the Ukrainian already.

But speaking on talkBOXING, Spencer Oliver felt Fury could make his return against newly-minted WBO champion Fabio Wardley.

“I imagine his first opponent will be less of a calibre.

“Obviously he will be looking at Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua, but I think Fabio Wardley will be in that mix now.

“I think he will be looking at that, and after his win over Joseph Parker, it could be a route back to a world title very quickly.

“There would be a world title on the line, and he may see that as his easiest option.

“He can get that WBO title, get to Usyk again and then the undisputed titles are on the line again.

“But if he wants to fight Usyk, he could look at Wardley, it makes sense as he may want to take some bling into it.

“This could be a possibility, Tyson Fury may not even need an easier fight to get his confidence back.”

talkSPORT’s Adam Catterall shares his verdict on Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury

Speaking on talkSPORT, Adam Catterall shared the feelings of just about every British fight fan as he immediately reacted to the news.

“This is the fight that every single British boxing fan has been making noise for for at least five years,” Catterall said.

“It’s great that we see these two names pitted together.

“Obviously we would have liked to have seen it a touch earlier. But listen, let’s not moan about it. Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua is absolutely the best fight for both of these guys next.”

But, as Catterall pointed out, fans won’t want to get too ahead of themselves until the first bell sounds.

“I will reserve judgement until I see both of these fellas walking to the ring,” Catterall said.

“We’ve had this conversation on many, many, many, many occasions. There will be a lot of money involved in it. It is a fight that I think every single fight fan wants to see.”
