Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards responds to Chris Finch’s ‘punked’ message
The Minnesota Timberwolves did what they set out to do in the first two games of their second-round series against the San Antonio Spurs. With a spirited effort that not many saw coming, the Wolves stole Game 1 to gain home-court advantage in the series. However, that didn’t make a 133-95 loss in Game 2 in San Antonio any less ugly.
Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch didn’t hold back on his team’s lackluster performance, saying that the Wolves “got punked” by the Spurs in the Game 2 rout. However, star guard Anthony Edwards doesn’t necessarily agree with that sentiment, and he shared that postgame via ESPN’s Anthony Slater.

“We started the game too cool.”
On the doubles: “They was playing crazy, right?”
Is he ready to start? “That’s not up to me.”
Ready to up minutes? “Whatever’s required.”

“Punked is crazy,” Edwards said.
Edwards, who came off the bench once again in just his second game back from a hyperextended knee that also caused a bone bruise, played 24 minutes in this game and scored just 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting. The Spurs have a lot of long, athletic defenders on the perimeter, making it tough on Edwards and the other Minnesota guards to get into a rhythm.
Julius Randle, Jaden McDaniels and Terrance Shannon Jr. all also had 12 points to lead Minnesota.
On the other side of the floor, Victor Wembanyama bounced back from a disappointing Game 1 performance with a 19-point, 15-rebound game in Game 2. Wembanyama’s presence in the paint on defense also makes it very hard for Minnesota and any other San Antonio opponent, and that isn’t gonna change as the series goes along.
Edwards is still on a minutes restriction as well as coming off the bench, so it will be interesting to see how Finch and the Timberwolves staff handles him as the series goes on. He made an incredibly rapid return from that knee injury that can sometimes keep players out for up to a month, so it’s understandable that he wouldn’t be quite up to speed after not even two weeks.
The Wolves won’t have much time to regroup after this game, as they will head home for Game 3 on Friday night looking to get back on track in the series.
