Timberwolves rumors: Insider reveals Anthony Edwards injury return ‘variability’

On Saturday evening, the Minnesota Timberwolves picked up a huge Game 4 win over the Denver Nuggets to go up 3-1 in their first round playoff series. The Timberwolves suffered some brutal injury misfortune in this game, with Donte DiVincenzo going down just a couple of minutes in with what has been revealed to be a torn Achilles, and Anthony Edwards exiting later with a hyperextended knee.

It was reported by ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania that Edwards will be out multiple weeks due to the injury, and recently, Timberwolves insider Chris Hine of the Minnesota Star Tribune reported on the historical precedent for the injury.

“What I’ve heard from sources re: Anthony Edwards’ injury. There’s a lot of variability in a potential return to play timeframe. Have to see how the swelling in his knee goes down. That’s important for next steps. Basically taking things week to week but a lot is unknown,” reported Hine on Bluesky.

Hine also reported on a reason for optimism regarding Edwards’ injury.

“Edwards is a traditionally fast healer with a high pain tolerance. And if the Wolves can close out the Nuggets perhaps it buys Ant time to get back. But again, there is a lot unknown from a specific timeframe. He could still be out a while,” he reported.

Overall, the Timberwolves have built themselves a nice cushion by earning a 3-1 lead in the series against a struggling Nuggets team, but closing this series out will be no easy task with both Edwards and DiVincenzo sidelined.

The Timberwolves will hope for more Herculean performances from unsung heroes like Ayo Dosunmu in order to get their fourth win and advance to the second round.
