Timberwolves overcome Anthony Edwards, Donte DiVincenzo injuries to beat Nuggets

The Minnesota Timberwolves took a commanding 3-1 lead in their opening round series of the NBA playoffs against the Denver Nuggets after winning Game 4, 112-96, in impressive fashion following injuries to Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo. The series now shifts back to Denver where the Timberwolves will have the chance to end the series and advance to the Western Conference Semifinals.

The injuries to both Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo occurred in the first half of Game 4, and the Nuggets even held a slim lead at halftime of Game 4, but the Timberwolves rallied back in the second half to seize control of the game and the series.

Neither Edwards nor DiVincenzo returned to the game, and DiVincenzo’s season was revealed to be over after an Achilles tear. No further update was available in regards to Edwards’ injury status. But without two of their top players, it was Ayo Dosunmu who led the way with 43 points off the bench.

He also had four rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot in 42 minutes of play. He shot 13-of-17 from the field, 5-of-5 from the 3-point line and 12-of-12 from the free-throw line. Dosunmu was a trade deadline acquisition by the Wolves in a deal with the Chicago Bulls.

Through the Timberwolves’ first three playoff games, Dosunmu was averaging 16.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists with splits of 57.6 percent shooting from the field, 33.3 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 85.7 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Julius Randle contributed with 15 points, nine rebounds and two assists, while Jaden McDaniels had 12 points eight rebounds and three assists. The Timberwolves can close out the series in Game 5 on Monday when the series shifts back to Denver.
