Phillies’ J.T. Realmuto gets 100% real on another ugly loss
Losses are always going to be part of an MLB team’s season. After all, even the best team in MLB regular season history (over a 162-game season) only won less than 72 percent of its games. But the manner in which the Philadelphia Phillies are losing some of their games has to be very gut-wrenching.
On Friday night, the Phillies were holding a 4-2 lead over the Baltimore Orioles heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Starting pitcher Andrew Painter righted the ship after allowing two runs in the first inning, shutting out the Orioles the rest of the way before Philly hooked him to start the seventh, with Orion Kerkering taking his place.
Kerkering then proceeded to allow four runs in the seventh, and the Phillies ended up losing the game, 6-4. This did not sit too well with veteran catcher J.T. Realmuto, who expressed his unfiltered thoughts after another brutal loss.
“It’s tough. This is not the brand of baseball we want to be playing. We’ve got the guys in this room to win. And we know that. We just have to play better. We’re just not doing enough things, particularly late in the game. I feel like, when it really matters, just not making the pitches we need to make and not getting ahead of guys and attacking them, and that’s getting us in trouble” Realmuto said, via NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Realmuto even said that the Phillies are concerned over their bullpen, although he reiterated that he believes they simply have to be better moving forward, as it’s not talent that they’re lacking.
“We’re concerned but we believe we have the guys in this room to get it done. We’ve got guys that have got a lot of big outs for us in the last few years, and with really good stuff. Like I mentioned, we’re just not attacking the zone,” Realmuto added.
This latest defeat drops the Phillies to 57-53 on the season, although as things stand, they are still sitting in an NL Wild Card spot.
