‘Not much’ inbound interest in Sky’s Skylar Diggins before trade deadline

The Chicago Sky may be one of the teams to watch ahead of the WNBA trade deadline. However, all signs suggest Skylar Diggins will remain in the Windy City. Despite the veteran guard’s acknowledged frustration with her current role, insider Alexa Philippou reported there has been little momentum toward a potential deal.

According to Philippou, the Sky are not actively shopping the multi-time All-Star, and rival teams have shown minimal interest in pursuing a trade.

“We also have a player in Skylar Diggins that is someone who has expressed she is not super happy with her situation in Chicago, but we have heard that the Sky are not shopping her and there’s not really been much of any inbound interest from people around the league, so wouldn’t be shocking to see her stay with the Sky,” Philippou said.

Diggins’ first season in Chicago has been marked by an inconsistent fit within head coach Tyler Marsh’s system. She has also seen a move to the bench and injury-related absences. However, the financial realities of the WNBA market complicate any potential move. Diggins’ sizeable veteran contract requires a trade partner with enough cap flexibility and matching assets. Those make a deadline deal difficult to construct.

Unless a contender unexpectedly presents Chicago with a compelling offer, general manager Jeff Pagliocca appears content to ride out the season. As the deadline approaches, the most likely outcome is Diggins remaining with the Sky.

Chicago’s 2026 season has been a challenging transition under Marsh. Entering late July at 10-18, the Sky have struggled to close out tight games. They have dropped more than a handful of contests decided in clutch situations while also battling injuries to key contributors.
