Francisco Lindor reveals mood inside Mets’ clubhouse before trade deadline

The atmosphere inside the New York Mets clubhouse has to be very tense. After all, with the trade deadline on the third of August inching closer and closer, the more likely it becomes for the Mets to trade away their veteran pieces to hit the reset button amid a cataclysmic 2026 campaign. But for Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, everyone in the clubhouse is simply trying to block out that noise.

“Marcus (Semien) said it best earlier. He said that we’ve got to win every game. You never know what can happen. That’s the mentality here, everybody’s trying to focus on winning,” Lindor told reporters following the Mets’ 5-2 loss to the Miami Marlins on Friday. “It’s only human nature to be paying attention to what’s happening out there.”

“Whatever happens, happens. It’s not my job. My job is to play shortstop.”

Francisco Lindor was asked about the mood of the Mets' clubhouse as the trade deadline approaches:

The Mets already traded away two pitchers, with David Peterson and A.J. Minter being shown the door to bring in some prospect capital. And as much as trades are part of the business, Lindor still expressed how much he’s going to miss the ones he shared the locker room with.

“We’re going to miss Minter. He’s a true professional, a guy that even during his rehab, he was always extremely optimistic and worked hard. When he was here, he gave everything he had. We’re going to miss a guy like that,” Lindor added.

More trades are yet to come for the Mets, so Lindor has to brace for the litany of goodbyes he’s going to have to say. This is the consequence of falling way short of expectations, as the lingering uncertainty as the trade deadline nears cannot be of any help to a locker room that’s already in shambles mentally.

Even Lindor, the face of the Mets franchise, could potentially be on the move, but that is very unlikely since New York is surely looking to get back to contending ways as soon as next season.
