Jerry Jones’ son makes stark admission on selling $13bn Cowboys as Maxx Crosby responds to his promise

A future sale of the Dallas Cowboys has not been entirely ruled out.

The Cowboys, who are owned by the polarizing Jerry Jones, are one of the most profitable organizations in the NFL.

America’s Team hasn’t appeared in a Super Bowl in three decades, but off-field success has seen their value jump to $13 billion according to Forbes, making them the world’s most valuable sports franchise.

Jones is a man under pressure, and has faced numerous calls to sell the franchise over the years, to which he emphatically, and repeatedly, says, “never.”

However, despite that one-word assessment of the Cowboys’ future, a sale is apparently not entirely out of the question.

“We wouldn’t rule it out, but we’d also be very particular about who we would bring in as a partner in terms of that,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones, Jerry’s son, recently said.

“But yes, it was designed when we passed that rule that you could have private equity involved in the NFL, and you could have minority partners.

“It made sense for a lot of different reasons. And every owner who chooses to go that path can speak for themselves in terms of why they’re doing it, but I think it’s a great tool.

“I think it makes the league stronger, personally. Certainly, it’s not something that we would ever totally rule out, but I wouldn’t say anything is on the front-burner, either.”

If the Cowboys ever hit the open market, they are bound to shatter multiple NFL records.

A group led by Silicon Valley billionaire Vinod Khosla recently purchased the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks for $9.612 billion, the current record.

The Cowboys will be worth much more than that, and while he is still owner, Jones still has big plans for the team ahead of the 2026 season.

Cowboys aren’t done adding ahead of the start of 2026

Looking to finally end their Super Bowl drought, the younger Jones promised fans that the Cowboys are still active in strengthening their roster just weeks ahead of the regular season.

“We’ve got several things that we’re considering right now. Some of it trades; some of it signing guys,” Stephen Jones said on the radio, via Tommy Yarrish of the team website.

“A lot of these older players who have still got some tread on the tires can come in here and help you.

“It may come in the form of a trade; it may come in the form of a veteran signing as you move into camp.”

A name they have continuously been linked with this offseason is Las Vegas Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby.

Crosby’s trade to the Baltimore Ravens was vetoed earlier in the offseason, and he has seemingly remained on the market despite reporting to Las Vegas’ training camp.

Jerry revealed that the team attempted to work out a deal in March.

“We did not walk away. That’s about all there is to say. We understood his injury well. We thought he could help us then,” Jones said.

“We were surprised by the way that was resolved. To interject anything about what we’re thinking or doing, because he went back to the Raiders, would be a mistake. He’s a Raider.“

Whether Stephen is hinting at another attempt to get Crosby to the Cowboys remains up for debate, but the 28-year-old is hearing the noise around a move to Dallas and doing his best to silence it.

“It doesn’t change anything for me, to be honest,” Crosby said this week.

“People act like they don’t. . . . If you’re an athlete in this position, you see everything. Regardless, if you want to or not.”
